Established in 1975 with the purchase of mares from the “Newstead South” Pastoral Company’s Dispersal sale and the colt “Cherokee Lc Silver Cloud”, bred by Mr. Lionel DeLandelles, “Cherokee”, Rockhampton, a pure breeding program was adopted. The purchase of half and three quarter bred Percheron mares of “Newstead” bloodlines added to the breeding strength in a Grading-Up and Cross Breeding Program.
In 1978 “Hermes” was purchased from Mr. R. W. Peacock, Norfolk. UK. The first French Bred Percheron Stallion to be imported in forty years, he had enjoyed a successful show career in England and produced an excellent line of stud and prize-winning progeny in Australia and overseas. “Kamilaroi Envoy”, exported to New Zealand in 1980 (to breed Percheron Warmblood horses from Thoroughbred mares) consistently won All Breed Draught Exhibit at North Island Shows, while “Kamilaroi Fairlane” was later exported to Christchurch, South Island. In Toronto, Canada, “Hermes” grandson, “Lucasia Mr. Black” was judged Senior and Grand Champion Stallion at the 1983 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair.
During thirty-three years of breeding quality purebred horses, sires used:
“Armley Emile”, (“Kamilaroi Ambassador x “Garner’s Evita” (imp.UK), left an even, quality line of stock with exceptional temperament.
Kamilaroi Brigadier”, (Kadlunga Wilful x Newstead 51) winner of Supreme Percheron Exhibit at Laidley then Gatton Draught Horse Field Days on several occasions was a full brother to “Kamilaroi Ambassador”.

These sires have been used over a number of complementary mares both grey and black from Newstead, Foxlow and Kadlunga Bloodlines.
The Park family has also pursued an outcrossing program and equal attention has been given to the Percheron Warmblood and Percheron Sport Horse Breeding Program.
Thoroughbred stallions used have included:

“Kind Music” (imp.GB) (known as the “French Horse”) (Music Boy x La Magna).

They have collectively produced many horses that have competed successfully in a wide range of equestrian disciplines.
In 2000 the R Line Holsteiner Stallion, “Brokeford Park Rommel” (Romedio x Lakala), was introduced to the Percheron Warmblood Breeding Programme and used until 2005, with his first progeny currently competing and training, displaying quiet temperament and classic movement.
“Eildon Park Charles” (Lord Alydar (TB) x Blackgown – from Radium, Dimray, Personality (ASH) bloodlines). His first foals (2006/’07) are showing great promise.
“Kamilaroi” has both bred and bought in part bred horses, among which were the highly successful “Kamilaroi Ben Rock”, “Kellit Park Bess and Belle (harness), “Kamilaroi Statesman”, “Rock On”, “Amaroo Prince”, “Kamilaroi Phantom” (show jumping), “Kamilaroi Ultimate” (eventing – now retired to stud due to injury), Newstead Gillian” and “Newstead Punch” (pulling competition – 2.37 & 2.77 times their own weight respectively; pulling 3,410 lbs. Kamilaroi Monarch”, a Black Gelding, spent many years with the NSW Police Force as their Drum and Vaulting Horse. Following retirement, he was soon representing “Kamilaroi” with the “Kamilaroi Vaulting Team” in competition and displays. “Kamilaroi Cadet” replaced him until his retirement in 2004 when “Kamilaroi Xena” and Kamilaroi Zircon took over from him. A number of “Kamilaroi” Warmblood youngsters are in training for various disciplines with Karen Foran and Priscilla (“Pill”) Morley at their “Kamilaroi Equestrian Centre” Cabarita Beach, NSW, with their group of able supporters doing us proud. Zircon and Xena have returned to breed on and “Kamilaroi Yorkshire” (owned by Suzie Mackenzie) and several youngsters are stepping up to replace them.
The versatility of these horses can be seen across the many disciplines in which they are competing:
Broncoing, Cutting, Dressage, Eventing, Harness, In Hand, Jumping Equitation, Pony Club, Show Jumping, Side Saddle, Trick Riding and Vaulting. A few of the horses to watch are “Kamilaroi Bantry”, Kamilaroi Fantasia” (Fancy), “Kamilaroi Talisman” (“Merlin’s Masterpiece”), “Kamilaroi Tandem”, “Kamilaroi Texan”, “Kamilaroi United”, Kamilaroi Utah”, “Kamilaroi Vamp”, “Kamilaroi Volte” (Blondie), “Kamilaroi Velvet”, “Kamilaroi Veneer”, “Kamilaroi Xebec”, Kamilaroi X-tra” (Porky), “Kamilaroi Yetta”, “Kamilaroi Yorkshire”, “Kamilaroi Zeal”, “Kamilaroi Zero” and “Kamilaroi Zone”.
We are now fortunate to have three generations of our family involved with the breeding programme (our four Mackenzie grandchildren are showing a keen interest, becoming involved with Pony Club and Vaulting at every opportunity) and Kamilaroi Equestrian Centre building partnerships and continuing the wonderful group interaction we enjoy with Karen, “Pill” and the team.
